b. Study Circle in EcoListening

Basics of EcoListening Study Circle

This study circle will be facilitated by students from the Introductory Course in EcoListening held at the end of 2012.

What is a Study Circle?

A Study Circle is different from a course:
A)   Each week everyone studies selected materials on their own
B)   Then they discuss these materials during the study circle (there are Factilitators, not Teachers)
C)   And they practice and discuss the exercises proposed

It is more like a meeting place with lots of dialog and lots of learning, too than a traditional class.

Facilitators

This study circle will be Facilitated by José and Rebecca, who participated in the Introduction to EcoListening course held in 2012, with Stella’s (who taught the course) supervision.

The students from last year’s class asked for more time to gather and review the content (since it was an intense and interesting course), so we decided to offer this format to combine two things:

1) A review for the more advanced students

2) A mini-course in Introduction to EcoListening open to new people

The Program

Origins of EcoListening

History; how to use it effectively; examples of use and how it has change people’s lives; what is bringing this model into the radical social change movements; how to start practicing and … let’s start!

The Basic Theory

We explain the simple but revolutionary model that the pioneers of the CoCounseling movement discovered 50 years ago, which is the basis for its practice.

Chronic and Intermittant Patterns

What often confuses us is how we and the people around us can act rationally one minute and irrationally the next. We’ll solve this mystery and provide tools to solve the problem.

Early Memories

The earlier distress patterns are developed the more ingrained they become in establishing our manners of reacting, and also the easier they are to find and discharge effectively and permanently.

 The Importance of Goals

We end with a class that looks to the future and provides effective tools for planning – with another’s attention – and putting our decisions in a global context.

 Goals and Final Celebration

The last meeting will be designed by the group members. A suggestion to start out is to share our goals and have a final celebration for completing the study circle (and anything else that’s proposed).

a. New Introduction Course

posted Oct 4, 2012, 4:05 AM by Stella Ne   [ updated Jan 30, 2013, 4:39 AM ]

The first Introduction to EcoListening Course starts 22 Oct 2012.

Modality 10 Classes in 10 weeks, live online meetings with NodoEspiral of the Permaculture Academy.
This is a professional support group for social activists & permaculture designers, to care for each other, liberate our intelligence, un-block past upsets & negative habits & to grow as people in order to be more effective agents for Change.

This is a basic course, total duration of 10 weeks (2 & a half months).

The course starts the week of
22 October2012
(precise days to be decided by the participants)

The course will consist of 5 theory-practical classes
5 practical-theory classes

which are sufficient to give us the basic tools
& the confidence to start
on the great adventure of EcoListening.

This Introduction Course was organized initially in order to support a new EcoVillage that is starting, to give the people of that group the very powerful tools of EcoListening to -
  • support each person in their personal development
  • as well as the development of the group,
  • in order to transform conflicts into solutions a lot faster
  • & in general in order for their project to work in an optimal way.
Some additional people who are already practicing EcoListening & would like to support the new EcoVillage from outside were invited to the group.

We also decided to leave some places for people who are wanting from some time to start this course - so if you are one of those we invite you to enrol.

This is a primarily practical course (35% theory classes, 65% practical) & you can do the practicals with other participants on the course, but also with family, friends or work colleagues, as you wish.

Although we recommend to practice with the people on the course, as they will have the same information & support in order for the benefit to be really mutual & more balanced, as we will be correcting mis-understandings or bad habits that it's easy to accumulate during the continuous assessments.
